Spirit of Prophecy and LE Congress Reaffirms and Strengthens Significance of the Publishing Ministry

The Adventist Church in Malaysia held a regional-wide combined congress for Spirit of Prophecy (SOP) and Literature Evangelists from 16 to 19 April at Penview Hotel, Sarawak. The event brought together over a hundred dedicated Literature Evangelist workers, leaders, and members from across the region to celebrate and strengthen the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church through the ministry of literature and the writings of Ellen G. White.

Guided by the theme, “Lest We Forget; Sharing the Vision, Sharing God’s Love Through the Literature Ministry,” the congress served as a spiritual and practical platform to reignite commitment to the Church’s publishing work and reaffirm the lasting relevance of the Spirit of Prophecy. The theme echoed throughout the event, reminding attendees of the sacred trust entrusted to them—to keep the vision alive and spread God’s love through the printed word.

The four-day event rolled out a well-structured program that included seven sessions focused on the Spirit of Prophecy, while four sessions were dedicated to Literature Evangelism. These sessions were thoughtfully led by regional and local leaders, publishing directors, and Spirit of Prophecy coordinators, each offering biblical insights, historical context, and practical applications for ministry.

In his message, Pastor Stephen Apola reminded the audience that “God is not an ATM machine. He wants to be close to us, to have a connection with us.” This profound statement speaks to the heart of Christian faith—a relationship with Jesus, not mere religion. Pastor Francis Lajanim further added depth by highlighting the redemptive purpose behind Christ’s sacrifice, “Sin separates us from God, but God always has a good plan for us. The blood that was shed on the cross is holy blood—poured out for our salvation.” It’s all about restoring connection and saving souls for the Kingdom of Heaven. Meanwhile, Pastor Mahaingam Varah emphasized the connection through the Sabbath, calling it “the seal of God, because it tells us who God is.”

One of the most moving highlights was the special segment titled “Miracle of Grace.” This powerful testimony session featured 12 Literature Evangelists from the Sarawak Mission, Northern Sabah Mission, Sabah Mission, and Peninsular Malaysia Mission, each sharing personal experiences that illustrated how God’s grace continues to work mightily through the ministry of literature.

Towards the end of the congress, an award ceremony was held to recognize the dedication and services of literature evangelists. The ceremony not only honoured their hard work but also symbolized a shared commitment of the entire church family to continue advancing God’s message through literature. Rosnang binti Sawatan, Juslin James, Tonichong Patungan, Meliana binti Amit, Lorence bin Abusanga, Norzinonah binti Bongol, Mary Christina anak Jipip, Linda Mosidin, Ann Clement, and Justina Salunda were among the recipients of these awards.

The union-wide combined congress on the Spirit of Prophecy and Literature Evangelists successfully brought together leaders and workers from across the union in a spirit of unity and revival, reigniting their passion and commitment to the church’s publishing ministry. Through inspiring messages, practical sessions, heartfelt testimonies, and the sharing of real-life experiences, delegates were empowered to carry forward the mission of spreading god’s love and truth through literature. The Congress affirmed the lasting relevance of Ellen G. White’s writings and strengthened the role of literature evangelists as frontline missionaries, equipped to reach hearts and homes with the gospel.
